Recently, I spent some time talking about how you can conserve water and lower your bill. One of my tips was that you need to check for leaks.
While most leaks come from the toilet your hose can be a culprit as well. Here’s how to fix a leaky hose.
Determine the Source of the Leak
The leak’s either going to be at the hose bib, at the hose connector, the sprayer, or in the hose itself. The location of the leak determines the nature of the fix.
Hose Bib
Usually you’ll have to tighten the packing nut with a wrench. If this isn’t work, check the washer inside the hose bib and replace it.
Remember to shut off the water before replacing the washer since you’ll have to pull the whole hose bib out of the wall in order to get the job done.
This video shows how to tighten the packing nut:
The Sprayer
A leaky sprayer is almost always due to a worn out or missing washer. Remove the sprayer from the hose, then pop a new washer in. It should get rid of the leak right away!
The Hose Itself
You’ll need a hose repair kit to do a proper job of this, and you’ll have to cut away the damaged section of the hose in order to use it.
Here’s a video that shows how this repair works:
Do It Quick!
Your hose could cost you a lot of money if you allow the leak to persist, so be sure to take care of the problem as quickly as possible.
