Gutters are meant to help you protect your driveway, as well as other vital areas of your home. But what if you’ve been struggling with bad gutters for years?
If that’s the case, you might have a driveway full of cracks and splits as a result of improperly diverted water. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to fix your own driveway if you’ve got the time and inclination to do so.
here’s what you’ll need.
Step 1: Clean Out the Cracks
There is often a lot of dirt in debris in driveway cracks. There may also be weeds.
So before you try to repair them you’ll want to remove as much of this mess as possible. A 5-in-1 tool is very helpful for digging these things out of tough cracks.
Clean Your Driveway
It’s important to get rid of as much dirt as possible before you try to repair the driveway simply because dirt can interfere with the compound’s ability to bond with your concrete. So sweep it down, then hose it off.
Let your driveway dry, then move on to the next step.
Step 3: Mix Top n’ Bond and Apply
Sakrete Top n’ Bond is by no means the only product out there, or even the only method for fixing a concrete driveway. However, it’s a solution that’s more or less headache-free.
Pull on some gloves. Mix the Top n’ Bond with water (water first, then powder). Then trowel the compound over the cracks. Use your paintbrush to smooth out your application, and let it dry.
If you have much larger cracks you can start by sort of souping the mixture in, just like the man in the video below does as he repairs a sidewalk.
That’s it! You’re done! Of course, if you haven’t done anything about those troublesome gutters yet then it’s also time to call a gutter repair professional who can help you make sure your driveway won’t be in danger of major water damage in the future. Gutters protect the major areas of your home from water damage, and some of those (like the foundation) don’t have a quick and easy fix.
