2013-hurricane-seasonAt the beginning of this Hurricane Season, NOAA was predicting a very rough year. And while Ingrid has certainly made its presence felt in Mexico , it has actually been a rather quiet year for hurricanes so far.

So should you quit worrying? Toss out all of your preparations and figure on getting a break this year?

Not so fast! A CNN report warns that there could still be more to come. Many hurricane seasons get truly serious in September, or even October. The season’s not officially over until November.

And it’s not even unheard of for storms to come late, striking coasts in December, just as everyone starts breathing a sigh of relief.

It’s hard to understand why weather doesn’t necessarily act as predicted or planned. The CNN article certainly lists a lot of different theories.

But we know that central Florida is always going to be a hurricane-prone area. It’s best to just stay prepared.

So check your emergency plan. Make sure that your gutters are clean and are prepared to handle as much water as they might have to. It’s not over until it’s over, and while nobody wants to see a hurricane it would nevertheless be a mistake to assume that the worst is behind us.
