Pinellas County Extension Hosts Rain Harvesting Class
Here at Rain Control Gutters we’ve been spending a lot of time talking about various methods for rain water harvesting. So our interest was piqued when we found out that Pinellas County Extension is going to hold a rain harvesting class this month.
This class will be held at the Oldsmar Public Library at 400 St. Petersburg Drive East, Oldsmar FL 34677. It will be on May 11th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The class is free for anyone who wants to attend.
The class has a fairly narrow focus since it doesn’t cover all of the different methods of rain water harvesting. However, if you’ve been delaying your project because you’re not entirely sure how to install a rain barrel then this is going to be a great place for you to go and learn. You’ll also get a free reference book and a list of places where you can go to buy the barrels so you don’t have to shop all over town.
You’ll learn how to cut the tops of them (usually with a power saw) and how to install the mosquito screen that keeps the water safe to use.
Pinellas County Extension will also be giving away a 55 gallon rain barrel as a door prize. It’s a recycled, food grade barrel that is specifically meant for rain harvesting purposes. Why buy if you can win?
If you have questions about the event you’ll simply need to call the Pinellas County Extension at (727) 582-2108.
Pinellas County Extension offers all sorts of lawn, garden, and urban farming help to residents of the Tampa Bay metro area. They also offer many other helpful classes throughout the year.
Right now they’re also taking lawn and garden questions via e-mail. You can send your question, along with any photographs of the problem, to hort@pinellascounty.org.
