Visit the Florida Learning Garden
The Florida Learning Garden (located at the State Fair near Gate 3) caught our attention this week. A creation of “Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful,” the garden will give visitors a chance to get up-close and personal with many of the things we talk about on our blog: rain gardens, hydroponic gardening, rain barrels, and Florida-friendly native plants.
Since some of these gardening methods are a bit touchy (rain gardens in particular) it’s not a bad idea to learn everything that you can learn before you start excavating your own yard.
You can learn a little more about the garden by watching this video:
The garden may be located at the fair, but it’s going to outlast it. According to The Tampa Bay Times the Learning Garden recently received an $100,000 grant that’s going to allow it to construct seating areas so they can comfortably hold educational seminars.
They plan on having the seating complete by the end of October. The gardens will be open all year, however.
Not that the lack of seating is stopping them from offering quite a bit of education right now. They’ve got some kind of educational event going on every day that the state fair is in session, usually around 1:00 pm.
For example, on Saturday you can catch a Rain Barrel Painting class between 1:00 and 2:00 pm.
The learning garden is only a part of the very good work that “Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful” does. Be sure to like them on Facebook so that you can learn more about what they are doing throughout the year.
