Clearwater is offering a unique opportunity: the ability to turn a downtown parking space into a miniature park. Clearwater considers this to be a kind of “Love Note” from the city to its residents.
It’s called the “Reclaim Your Space” event. The event itself takes place on November 7th, but there are quite a few deadlines and events between now and then that you should be aware of.
First, Clearwater is giving you a chance to see an example mini-garden at the Clearwater Farmer’s Market on September 4th between 9 AM and 2 PM.
If you get inspired you will need to apply to create a mini-garden of your own on September 27th. If you’ve been selected to participate you’ll know by October 18th. According to the website, “All mini-parks must be designed to promote love of Clearwater, recreation, green living, alternative transportation, or some combination there-of,” so you’ll want to think along those lines when you put your application in.
Though similar events have been held in other cities this is Clearwater’s first time. Getting in on the very first Clearwater Reclaim Your Space event should be a blast!
You’ll get assigned a metered parking space along the Cleveland Street District in downtown Clearwater. Then you’ll be able to create an awesome mini-park and hang out in it as long as you want.
Still confused? Here’s a video of a similar event that took place in Tampa.
We’re looking forward to seeing all of the cool reclaimed parking spaces in Clearwater in November! What kind of mini-garden will you put together?
